“No, it’s not!”

At a recent social event, a very dear friend of mine casually commented, “It’s funny how we age.” Looking around the room, my immediate response was: “No, it’s not! There is no humour in what I’m seeing!”

Maybe funny means odd or quizzical in this context.

Oft said by retirees, “How did I ever manage to fit in all the stuff I did when I was working?”

The elasticity of time relative to the age of the perceiver is an interesting conundrum to consider.

Peter Jackson mastered it; toying with the camera frame speed makes playing with time possible.

So, I pose the question: if you do less, does time seem shortened?

So, in comparison with time-frame speed: the less in-frame events, for the same period on real-time playback, time is shortened. Conversely, the more in-frame events and the playback time in real-time is lengthened.

So, the more you do, the more time you seem to have, although retrospectively you feel it was busy, and there was no time for “me”. However, you did fit in a lot of stuff, and you now wonder how you were ever able to hold a job, raise a family, and mow the
lawns!

There is an old saying “If you want a job done, give it to a busy person”.

Without time there is nothing – neither in reality nor metaphorically.

And at the end of one’s life, time loses all meaning.

Or does it!?
